The Yellow Christ

The Yellow Christ. 1889 Paul Gaugin.
This painting depicts prayer and service. It shows Jesus on the cross. He is painted yellow like the landscape and it symbolizes the lonely life of the peasants in Brittany, where Gaugin visited. He used fall colors in the painting as well. The season is supposed to symbolize harvest time int he agricultural culture. This goes along with the religious cycle of rebirth.
