blog 9 pink nude

I chose Pink Nude created by Henri Matisse in 1935.  When I first saw this painting I was immediately drawn by the strangely proportioned body.  When I looked further into this painting however, I began to realize how the background is a rather simple pattern and I thought it was strange that that limbs are cut off by the edges of the canvas.  The limbs are very exaggerated and the lines of the body are rather smooth and fluid.  The contrast between the straight, rigid lines of the background pattern are the opposite of the fluid lines of the body.  I thought that was pretty interesting as well.
