Figures on the Beach

This painting, "Figures on the Beach," was done by Pablo Picasso, oil on canvas, in 1931 when he was wrapped in a love affair with painter/poet Dora Maar.  The two figures are intertwined with their mouths wide open and their tongues out, while the woman's eyes are closed and the man's eyes wide open clear with intent.  I like this painting because the form that they are in is almost sculptural and when I first looked at this painting I had no idea who the man or woman was until I read some history behind it.
