Blog #9 Human Condition

Douleur d'Amour

This is a painting made in 1899 by William Bouguereau. It is oil on canvas and it depicts what seems to be a woman and a young child (with wings) showing the emotion of sadness at a graveyard. I picked this painting because I like how the painting expresses the human condition in more than one way, in that they are bearing their naked bodies while also clearly showing their sadness. The translation of the title of the painting translates to "pain of love" which I believe fits the painting perfectly.
