El Greco- Saint Joseph and the Christ Child

Saint Joseph and the Christ Child was painted in 1599 during the Spanish period and was a part of the late Renaissance style. Saint Joseph is seen as a large walking figure of trust and protection to the child (Jesus). Saint  Joseph was represented as a young man with a walking stick to show paternal love and is crowned by three angels which are to symbolize purity, triumph and love. The colors and rhythm of the elongated Saint Joseph figure express the meaning of the painting.
