the gleaners post #1

The painting I chose was an oil on canvas painting named The Gleaners by Jean-Francois Millet.  This was completed in 1857 in Musee d'Orsay, Paris.  I chose this painting because of how is depicts the lower class of this society.  It is showing three peasant women gleaning a field of wheat.  The upper French class as a whole was not a big fan of this painting.  Another reason this painting was not perceived well is because of its large size.  This painting was 33 inches by 44 inches, which was usually the size canvas that was used to depict religious or mythological style paintings.  Since this was depicting labor, nothing remotely religious, that was a major reason it was not well perceived.
