This painting was finished in 1955. This painting influenced Dali with his increasing interest in science and religion. He labeled the era of his work during this time "nuclear mysticism". His goal was to create christian ideology with disintergration.

The "Last Supper" Leonardo Da Vinci
The "Last Supper" by Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the most historic and well known paintings of it's time and it is arguable the standard of which all other last supper paintings are compared to. Their are strong uses of contrast and symbolism through out the painting. These elements help the viewer identify Judas as the painting portrays the moment were Jesus announces which of his desiples will betray him. Da Vinci accurately depicts each desiple inquiring among themselves "is it I" Lastly their is no one on the other side of the table which invites the viewer in.
El Greco- Saint Joseph and the Christ Child
Saint Joseph and the Christ Child was painted in 1599 during the Spanish period and was a part of the late Renaissance style. Saint Joseph is seen as a large walking figure of trust and protection to the child (Jesus). Saint Joseph was represented as a young man with a walking stick to show paternal love and is crowned by three angels which are to symbolize purity, triumph and love. The colors and rhythm of the elongated Saint Joseph figure express the meaning of the painting.
The Sacrament of the Last Supper
The Sacrament of the Last Supper
Salvatore Dali, 1955
Oil on Canvas
This is a painting by Salvatore Dali that gives his outlook on the famous religious event of the Last Supper. I like how this painting differs from Da Vinci's famous painting of the last supper, in ways such as Jesus looking younger and with no facial hair and with the 12 Apostles appearing as if they are praying or worshipping Jesus. I also like how he seems to symbolize the offering of Jesus' body in the painting.
crucifixion blog 6
I chose The Crucifixion by Pablo Picasso done in 1930. Before I did any research on this painting, the name and vibrant colors was what caught my eye due to this weeks assignment. However, when I started to read a little bit more about this painting I came to realize that Pablo Picasso had no intention of this painting having anything to do with religion. The interpretation of this painting is about how the pain and suffering is captured and how it is a forerunner in this painting because of the use of bright colors, certain shapes, and the expressions used.

Jose Clemente Orozco
1933
I chose this photo by Jose Clemente Orozco which was part of the Panel, from the Gods of the Modern World Series, because the man in the center is a symbol of Jesus who was crucified for spreading his beliefs in christianity during his time. Although his tragic death represented the epic and gruesome events that lead to him being nailed to the cross for all to see because of his beliefs and religious purpose. This photo show triumph that he escaped the cross and shows him as being authority figure in the painting. The yellow and orange tone of Jesus makes his distinct and stand out while the torn down city in the back also has refined detail that helps create a background that represents death and darkness. Orozco was a artist from Mexico, during the late 1880's and 1940's. His form of style came from s spirit of expressionists and consisted of El Greco.
